We're about to take up an offering

I've always been a big fan of foreign missions. The church I grew up in has a great heritage of supporting missionaries. My favorite Sunday of the month as a child was when the missions director for our church would give the missions report. One of my proud childhood accomplishments was to help found the Junior Missionary Club, whose goal was to support the missionary children by sending birthday cards, and learning about the things the missionary kids did while on the field.

But I'm firmly planted here in the United States. Not everyone is called to the foreign mission field. However ...

Becky is doing just that. She's a 18 year old ball of fiery ambition. She's been teaching Sunday School for several years, and has recently made the difficult decision to delay her freshman year of college for a six-month associates in missions trip to Paraguay.

I would love to say for everyone to jump up and down and give her a round of applause, but I think she'd prefer that everyone just fall to their knees and pray for her awhile.

Becky has been in preparation for this kind of call from God for a long time. I am continually amazed at her intellect, her realism. And teaching Sunday School? in Spanish? That is a gift that not everyone is suited for.

Today I'm just gonna come out and ask you to support her. Yes, she desires your prayer support, and would probably love a letter or a birthday card. But as anyone who has ever been on a missions trip can understand, financial support puts the prayer in action.
