It would be cute if it were someone else's kid

I read this post about dining out with children over at 5 Minutes For Parenting the other day, and laughed it off.

I should have stuffed my mouth shut with a sock instead.

Zesty is trying out a new temper trick, and it is on.my.nerves. If he is eating something and gets upset, he will simply let the mostly chewed food drip out of his mouth. While looking me straight in the eye.

Ooooh. Son.

He did this the other day at our favorite Mexican restaurant. Mr Lemon was trying to break Z's big tortilla chip in half so he could have one in each hand as is his custom when stuffing his face, and Zesty got mad about it. He threw his chips, and started flinging his chewed up chip out of his mouth.

It didn't help that the waiter chose that moment to put a plate of grilled cheese sandwich and fries in front of him, giving him more ammunition.

Anyways. To all of you dining at Rio Grande this past Thursday, you should know that we're A+ parents usually. The hospital nurses told us that when Zesty was approximately 20 hours old and we had diligently been recording his wet and soiled diapers and nursing times.

We totally cling to that A+ grade when we know he is trying our patience.

With both kids (and with Jack at this very point in time) we had a "don't eat out" phase. It's just SO bad. They grow out of it, but hooowee. It's lousy in the midst.

Oh.....just wait until there's another one in the picture and he has to go through THAT stage. It's not pretty. Rest up NOW! It gets better, though!

Have you had dinner with us recently and we not know about it? This is Wesley you describe.

Yes, been there done that and Daniel is finding his temper as well. Some stages of parenting I think I could do without!! Hang in there, it does get better, can't guarantee when, but it does! :o)
