The List

If you don't read anything else this week online, you must, simply MUST read this post by DaMomma.

I briefly have mentioned in the past that I was a victim of sexual abuse as a child.  I am thankful for the healing and restoration that God has brought to my life and my family as a result.  I do not apologize for taking that terrible experience and allowing the Lord to make something beautiful of it in my ministry.  There have been many times that I've felt impressed to share my story with friends, and I'm always amazed how others have allowed that pain to go unhealed for so long.

That being said, I also do not apologize for protecting my children fiercely.  The people that I trust to care for my children in my (rare) absence have earned that trust.  I am thankful that my time to start a family was delayed, because I was able to watch many of my peers either succeed or wildly fail at raising their own families, thus also able to see who among them would be as protective of mine.

Child abuse is rampant, and in my opinion, the best protection we can offer our children is awareness and education.  Awareness that not every person has the integrity to keep their hands to themselves, and education to not allow themselves to be part of the ugly cycle.

The safe list - we have it.  Do you?

Excellent post. J and I have already had many conversations about who we'll allow to care for our children...
...whenever we make up our minds to have said children, but that's another comment in and of itself.

Great post!

I am VERY picky about who watches are kiddos and I make no apologies for it. We have a safe list too.

I'm so full of admiration for people like you who have the courage to speak out about what must have been a horrific ordeal for you.
