Here kitty kitty kitty kitty kitty

Once upon a time, my sister and I adopted a wild cat. It was only a wee little kitten, just a few days old. He was yellow - we named him Moses, for we found him in the weeds.

Mom showed us how to feed him with a special bottle, and we had to "poop" him by stroking his widdle belly with a warm washcloth. Eventually he got too wild and crazy for our home, but not until he taught my special kitty Smokey how to purr. We dropped him off near a farm, and wished him happy hunting.

Once upon another time ... er, last night ... we found that our neighborhood stray kitten had kittens. I have a special bond with this Momma kitten because Mr Lemon thought I ran her over a week or so ago. He said "That cat is DEAD under your wheel." I ran out there - she was just sleeping.

Anyways, it is thundery and rainy here, and when we came back from wandering around town trying to find something free and entertaining to do, two of the (I think) five babies had wandered away from Momma. It broke my heart! Splenda is accustomed to kitties coming and going out in the middle of nowhere that she lives, and my husband warned me not to feed her, but I just couldn't take it anymore. Mr Lemon and Splenda left for an errand, and I went to work nesting for the kitty.

I chopped up some bologna in a dish and some fresh water. Then I very carefully used two old washcloths to pick up the babies. They were so squirmy and yelling. Despite the fact that they were pretty much stranded out on the sidewalk and in the mulch, they were not pleased with my interference. Momma hissed at me, as her instinct told her she should, but I'm pretty sure she knew what to do with that bologna. I left the washcloths, and backed away. She needed her space.

I hope they survive. I'll call the pound on Monday, because there is no way I am taking care of a kitten and five other new kitties.

I used to bring strays home all of the time as a child. With 3 kids, I now shoo them away. I know, it is very heartless of me. But, my middle child has a huge heart for strays, so I think there just might be more in my future.

Good luck resisting those adorable kittens. They are so stinkin' cute!

Aw, you can't NOT help a mama and little yelling kittens...(and I'm not much of a cat fan!)

Aw...kitties...

They stay in the barn, or else. If I were nearby, I'd take them off your hands!
