Saturday in my final H&R Block training course, we got a present!
...and blogger is not letting me post pictures... saWHEET
Well. It's black, and the front says "I got people," and the back says "My people got my back" in H&R Block green. you likey? I likey.
And I have a whole box of business cards. With my name on them. Spelled correctly and everything.
I haven't posted much about the tax thing, but here's my take on it. I love it. I love the problem solving, the computer work, the knowledge, the paperwork, the money, 'specially the money, and the fact that it is always going to be there for me, as long as there are taxes. And as the cliche goes, only death and taxes are certain.
I took the actual tax law classes 2 days a week from September through November. December I took an average of 3 classes a week to learn how to use Block's software, office procedures, and the bank products. Yesterday was my first day in the office, but I'm still not able to do returns until I complete 25 case studies. Which is fine, because it's a refresher on the tax law and also helping me get familiar with the software. An added bonus is the more experienced tax pros are helping customers around me, so I'm hearing their flow of the conversation, and they are available to answer my many, many questions.
Funny thing - whenever I start a new class, I lecture myself. "Liz. Do not be the know-it-all. Do not ask a bunch of questions. Try, try, this time, to let the teacher tell you everything you need to know without discussion. You do not have to be the whistle-blower if they say something contrary to the text."
Does this lecture work? no. So then I get stuck with the labels of "teacher's pet," and "the smart girl" and the jocks try and cheat off my papers. What the chicken??!?!*
Anyways. I'm really excited about working for Block, and being a Blockhead and all. I will be working a lot of hours though, between Large Office Supply Company and Block. Yesterday I worked my normal 9am-1pm here at home, then 2p-8p at Block, and 10p-2a again here at home. Yes. That is 14 hours of extreme computer usage. I absolutely passed out when I got off work at 2am.
My plan is to work 2-8 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and whatever hours they want to give me on Saturdays. Wednesday night is church, so I'd rather be resting that afternoon instead of rushing all over town trying to fit in a few hours. And Friday nights, while rather uneventful now, I may actually want to relax.
Which at this point in the post, I could talk about green monkeys dancing around the Empire State building, and you would not notice, because this is quite possibly the most boring post ever.
*note: me coyly throwing around cool phrases like Kathryn.
