If you give a girl a cinnamon roll ...

Yes. Yes ma'am I did.

I learned a lot about myself in the entire day that it took for me to make these.

1. This is the first time I've ever followed a recipe so close to exactly that I can say I almost exactly followed that recipe. (I only changed the frosting - because I'm not crazy about maple, that's why.)

2. It is so satisfying to punch a lump of yeasty dough down.

3. I should have let them rise longer.

4. I think it's the first time I've ever used my rolling pin.

5. The baby will sleep all day until it is time to roll cinnamon rolls. Then, she will be crazy interested in what you are doing, and need to nurse too.

6. Cinnamon, sugar, and melted butter makes one incredible mess.

7. But, if you stop to nurse the baby and read their love story while the roll is sitting there, all the filling will leak out, and leave a gooey mess on the counter. That makes for very small cinnamon rolls. And a lot of goo to clean up.

8. If you don't thoroughly melt the butter for the frosting, it will be glaringly apparent when you pour it on the baked cinnamon rolls.

9. I should have checked the first batch more thoroughly during baking, had to toss some. When I tasted them, they were hard as a rock. Four pans overdone ...

10. I want to do it again tomorrow.

That's not going to happen though, because I only have one package of yeast left. But - it totally made me want to make these yeast rolls too, and go punch cows or something.

Somebody Small is a fan though. He came down after his nap going "MMMMM" and ran for the kitchen. Alas, the gate was locked. Weeping and wailing. You don't need a video to imagine that.

I said "Momma made cinnamon rolls!" He said "NINNANNAN OOOOS"

We don't lack in the enthusiasm about pastries.

Zesty is getting soooo big! And I, too, love the way he says cinnamon rolls. :-)
I seldom try to get to involved in anything too serious while the grandbaby is here though I have managed to bake a small batch of cookies once or twice. I'm just not very brave, I guess. :-/
AND I love your new blog look!!! :-)

Very impressive!! I have NEVER made homemade cinnamon rolls, for fear of lossing my sanity. But, I am ALWAYS available if you need help eating them. However, I fear you do not need my help.

So funny- I've been an avid reader of Pioneer Woman's since my SIL introduced me to her a couple years ago :-) I actually made the cinnamon rolls to give away as Christmas presents last year....soo good! How did you change the frosting? I'm not a big maple fan either.

The frosting - I used 1 bag powdered sugar, 1/2 stick melted (sorta melted) butter, and total about 1 cup of milk. Oh. I also did not use coffee. So basically powdered sugar, butter, and milk.

Well, we were on the same wavelength last week, except you actually made the darn things. I simply printed out the recipe and then thought, "Who has time to make these things? It would take all day!" I'm glad to know I'm right and that I need to block off a whole day when I decide to make them.

They do look yummy, though, and I think I'll chance the icing a little, too.
