He gives and takes away

My heart is heavy today, even amidst all of my thankfulness of the happy events that the Lord has blessed me and my family with this year.

Yesterday the First Lady of my college died after struggling all year with an unexpected brain tumor. I don't even feel qualified to tell you all of the beauty of her heart. Sis Mary Dugas called everyone "Precious!" and she meant it. I have so many memories, impressions of her gracing the halls of Gateway, touching lives just with her sweet gentle soul. One time she and Bro Dugas were going to be out of town for the weekend, and she allowed the campus Pastor's wife to chaperone a bunch of us girls at her home overnight. Which was more important than just spending the night somewhere other than the dorm. It was a real home, with real bathtubs, and real decorations. She even had a guestbook setting out for us to sign, making us as welcome in her home as the many ministers and families she entertained.

Sis Dugas leaves behind two sons and one daughter, as well as a precious daughter in law (my next door neighbor at Gateway) and at least one grandchild. I don't know if her other daughter is married or not.

And so, Gateway, her church, her family, and the body of Christ has lost a sweet soul. Those of us who were touched by the evident fruit of the Spirit in her life will never be the same.

We'll see you on the other side, Sis Dugas!
